10622754_1542921335943446_5897936571209508439_nCounty Council District 4 and At-Large candidates debated issues of over-development, school capacity, and stormwater management at a recent forum hosted by the Mt. Pleasant Ruritan Club.

EXCERPT: Shreve said he has found many parents in these locations would rather send their children to portable classrooms than move them to a less-crowded school.

District 4 Democratic candidate Jessica Fitzwater responded that she wasn’t sure who would prefer portables.

“It is not an ideal learning situation,” said Fitzwater, a teacher at Oakdale Elementary School.

Fitzwater said she would tighten up the county’s adequate public facilities ordinance, which makes sure school construction and transportation keep up with housing development. Education funding will also be a top priority, she said.
